Pangasinan gets P7 Million Performance Challenge Fund AwardMay 23, 2016

PANGASINAN, Philippines – Pangasinan has become a province to reckon with following the many achievements it has earned for the last eight years since the provincial leadership of Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. took the helm in 2007. What used to be a ‘sleeping giant’ has been awakened after the province was given a new life to regain its stature as a premier province and maintain its standing as a number one province as well. Awards after awards have seen the rising again of Pangasinan and this is attributed to the sheer hard work of the governor, referred to as an ‘action man,’ and the province’s officialdom. The latest addition to the roster of awards Pangasinan has to its name is the Performance Challenge Fund (PCF) award which is a fund subsidy given by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) as an incentive for an outstanding performance in areas of good governance. gate Photo Credit: FB As per revalidation conducted by the DILG, the provincial government of Pangasinan is set to receive a PCF award of P7 Million from the DILG for passing the 2014 Good Financial Housekeeping (GFH), a component of the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG). Pangasinan was also among those who passed the 2012 Seal of Good Housekeeping (SGH). The SGH is a program of DILG that gives incentives to provinces, cities, and municipalities that passed the areas of transparency, accountability, planning and fiscal management. In 2014, the DILG has scaled-up further its performance metrics through the SGLG contained in Memorandum Circular 2014-39 dated March 24, 2014 entitled 2014 Seal of Good Local Governance: Pagkilala sa Katapatan at Kahusayan ng Pamahalaang Lokal which remains as one of the core assessment areas of the New Seal where Pangasinan has been a consistent GFH achiever for two consecutive assessment years which is in 2012 and 2014. The Provincial Engineering Office (PEO) said the P7 Million PCF will be used for the asphalting of the Pao-Pozorrubio roadline in Pozorrubio, Pangasinan. The road is a provincial roadline that connects municipalities of Manaoag and Pozorrubio, Binalonan and San Jacinto. It is also an alternate route for visitors of the Minor Basilica of Manaoag. According to the PEO, the asphalting of at least 1.709 kilometer stretch from Barangay Dilan, Manaoag to Barangay Malasin, Pozorrubio will shorten travel time, improve the accessibility of commuters, farmers, traders and visitors, aside from providing support to the agricultural and tourism development thrusts of the provincial government. The project is also expected to directly benefit at least 28,000 local residents and stimulate more economic, commercial and tourism activities.
