DILG exec sees improving performance of 15 LGUs in Nueva VizcayaFebruary 5, 2012

By Benjamin Moses M. Ebreo Sunday 5th of February 2012 BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Feb 5(PIA) -- An executive of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) here has expressed optimism on the improving performance of local government units in the province. “We hope that other LGUs will be at par with their counterparts who have shown remarkable performance on local governance,” said lawyer Odilon Pasaraba, DILG provincial director. Pasaraba said he is glad that LGUs especially those located in urban areas are now complying with the local governance standards set by the DILG. He said that the towns of Ambaguio, Diadi, and Villaverde were recently cited for their outstanding performance on the Seal of Good Housekeeping. The Seal of Good Housekeeping for LGUs is in line with the DILG’s commitment to aggressively scale up interventions to elevate the practice of governance that values transparency, accountability, participation, and performance into an institutionalized status. This project aims to recognize LGUs with good governance performance in internal housekeeping particularly on four areas such as good planning, sound fiscal management, transparency and accountability and valuing of performance monitoring. LGUs with the Seal of Good Housekeeping will be qualified for the Performance Challenge Fund(PCF) for LGUs being handled by the Bureau of Local Government Development(BLGD). “We still have to assist other LGUs especially in the upland areas on their compliance with our programs and projects,” he said. Pasaraba also praised the 15 LGUs and the provincial government here as they were qualified to avail of the department’s Local Government Support Fund(LGSF). The provincial government is entitled to receive P10 million from the LGSF while other LGUs will also get a corresponding funding assistance. “We will have an assessment and evaluation of the LGUs’ performance next month to know where to focus improvements on local governance,” he said.
